The Mazdaspeed 3 is quick, responsive, well-balanced and loads of fun to run around in. Mazda's 2.3-liter turbocharged direct-injection 4-cylinder Turbo engine is rated for 263 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. The 0-60m/ph comes in 5.8 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 14.2 seconds.
Larger front brake rotors and beefier calipers were added to deal with the additional speed and weight. Ride height was lowered 10 millimeters and braces were added to the chassis to tie the strut towers to the firewall; all done to improve handling. The Mazdaspeed3 is quicker than the Volkswagen GTI 2.0T & Honda Civic Si, and only three tenths of a second slower than the more expensive Subaru Impreza WRX Awd.
Options: the Grand Touring Package adds leather bolsters, Xenon headlights with an auto-on feature, rain-sensing wipers and a Bose 222-watt audio system with an in-dash six-disc CD changer.
