The LEAF is no slouch--Nissan compares its performance to that of a similar car fitted with a 2.5L gasoline engine. Braking is achieved via standard 4-wheel power assisted disc brakes, which are also regenerative, providing power back into the system. The 80 kW of output converts to about 107 horsepower. However, the real story here is the 207 pound-feet of torque which is available from a dead stop and is responsible for the Leaf's very good pick-up speed.
